I enjoyed the overall plot dynamic of the story, it had a great potential to be one of those books that pull you in quickly. The charcters had mild flavor, the setting was well described, but I felt in terms of the character's relationship that it moved far too fast. By Chapter 2 a girl who had only had one paranormal experience in her life prior to Nathaniel was already falling in love with him. This seemed a little rushed, and frankly threw me off for the rest of the book. The ending was ok, a bittersweet feel left over. I'd read it again maybe in the far future.

Great book
Like other Lois Ruby books, the story "takes you in" from the beginning. Preteen and high school students will enjoy reading this story while also learning about the Civil War. Adults who prefer historical fiction will be avid readers of Rebel Spirits, too. I'm so glad Lois Ruby has continued to write historical fiction!
I picked this book because I grew up living close to Gettysburg and I love a sweet romance. The author did a great job of transporting me back to PA. I feel the characters could have been developed a bit more,but the plot was great and kept me guessing. I wish the book could have been longer with more of a hint that there could possibly be a way for the 2 to meet again in another time.
My language arts class is reading this together. It's holding the attention of my middle schoolers very well. It even includes a little kissing between the main characters. Only Lois Ruby could pull that off well enough for my boys not to mind. Thanks, Lois. Another great book!
